Most (certainly not all) huskies refuse to fetch. The game just doesn’t make much sense to them: if they catch something, it’s theirs. They will happily play keep away, but don’t feel inclined to bring anything back to you. Teaching Rocco to fetch took us about 6 months and it involved many, seemingly unrelated, exercises. One of those exercises was feeding him from a Tricky Treat Ball
The idea was to put food into the ball whenever, at first accidentally, he pushed it towards us. You can also combine it with a clicker to mark the targeted behaviour – pushing the ball towards you. The intended outcome was for him to bring the ball to us for a refill. The exercise was part of us shaping the desired behaviour – in this case fetching.
