Almost two years after his Anaphylactic Shock Rocco decided to remind us just how delicate of a mountain flower he is (so much for a hardy Husky). Yesterday, just after a brief morning walk, he had a seizure. Working with animals, I have seen seizures before, but this was a violent Grand Mal that thankfully lasted under a minute. A terrifying thing to witness.
We rushed him to the vet, where we got both good and bad news. Good news: he’s healthy, bad news: he’s healthy. There was no apparent reason for the seizure other than an onset of K-9 Epilepsy. We are going to do more tests and get a second opinion in hopes we can find an answer and manage the situation as best as possible.
K-9 Epilepsy is a treatable condition in dogs, it affects all breeds at any age. There are some great resources for anyone with a pet suffering from this condition: FiveSibes and Canine Epilepsy Resource Center
