This week in Training Thursday we will continue with the second and final part of “Keep Your Dog Safe”. Last week in part 1 we learned how to teach your dog to “leave it” and the difference between “leave it” and “drop it”.
This week, I wanted to show two videos on how to successfully teach the “STOP” command. Both videos are fairly long, but definitely worth the time. One thing that wasn’t mentioned in these videos, but is important to keep in mind, is the release word. Make sure to pick a word (“Okay” is usually not the best choice!) such as “all done” or “that’ll do” to let your dog know that they can continue on with what they were doing. Good luck with this challenging exercise!

We haven’t come across that command before, will have to try it out!

Ideally it should stop you from chasing a squirrel across the street…..ideally….

These are important things for a dog to know.

Once it stopped Sampson from running out into the street after a crow. It is a great command and one I need to bring back into use, so when I need it, they know what it is.
Great reminder, thank you!
