A summer needs a road trip which is why we decided to pack up the car, yet again, and head out for a new adventure.
This time we decided to explore the Gulf Islands. During our three-day trip we visited Galiano, Mayne and Pender Islands.
We had an amazing time hiking, strolling on the beaches, eating great West Coast food, but the most memorable part of the trip were all the wildlife sightings!
I must admit that out of all our previous road trips this was the most exhausting. Mr. Wolf would wake us up 3 or 4 times per the night; rolling over and going back to sleep was not an option – we had to go out and hunt! He was besides himself sniffing all the deer that were coming into the garden to graze. And then there were deer during the day: along the road, in the fields, in the forest…everywhere. Any Husky owners can imagine what this meant to us.
On Mayne we got to check out an old lighthouse. In the dry grasses around it, Rocco had his first ever run in with a snake – a garter snake thankfully!
Galiano Island has some very impressive rock formations.
And a steep hike up to the ridge on Pender Island rewarded us with a spectacular performance!
We got to witness over a dozen of Bold Eagles gliding in the air currents.
As we were about to leave for the ferry, a family of sea otters came up on the dock to have a better look at Rocco. These are very curious and playful creatures. They were not afraid of Rocco until he decided to greet them with a loud “woo-woo”.

Gosh Mr. Rocco, what a super fun time you had on this adventure, thanks for sharing it with us! Too bad the otters didn’t want to play with you!
